I think one of the best ways to get your blog out there is to comment on other peoples blogs. Thats been the consensus pretty much. Unless you’re one of the lucky one’s where some how you have 2500 followers with no real networking done on your part. That’s awesome!
The past few months I really haven’t cared too much about gaining readers. I’m not blogging to make money, to get rad giveaways, or anything like that. I’m just writing (if you can call it that) and just trying to jot down memories and thoughts so one day I can look back on them. I’m so grateful that ANYONE finds this blog interesting enough to follow first of all, and the fact that I have a few faithful readers makes me so happy. I’m friends with nearly 500 people on twitter, half probably being celebrities and reality tv stars. Yes, I’m totally following pretty much any reality star that’s straight outta Jersey. You’ll see in a future post that Jersey really has a hold on me… Anyways, the other 40% are Parents. I suck at math but, I know that its just simply impossible for me to follow 230 of your blogs, faithfully. I just cant’. I couldn’t even finish the Twilight saga of books because I can’t find the time to read those huge books. If all of you do 5 posts a week? Jeezus Mary & Joseph… That’s a shit ton of reading. I can’t do it friends, I just. cant. do it. So I’m apologizing. This is going to sound really assholish of me too but, I can’t read 50 “parenting blogs” either. I just can’t. I LOVE being a Mom, but, sometimes the internet is my little break from parenting and I want to look at ridiculous shit like the girl who paints her nails a different way EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Or plan imaginary trips to Tokyo, or fake internet shop on modcloth.com. Or chat with Emmie Bee about absolutely disgusting shit, or my other Emily about crazy in-laws, or talk to Erin about Coffee shits! OK. In all honesty I have about 10 “parenting blogs” I read faithfully. The rest, if I see your post pop up while I’m on twitter I will read it most of the time. I also follow about 10 other blogs that have nothing to do with parenting really. (mostly food/tech/design blogs) Who I’m apologizing to though is those of you who read my blog somewhat faithfully and I don’t return the favor. I’m sorry for that. I seriously appreciate your readership, honestly, I really do. I hope you guys know that. I make it a point to respond to comments on my blog as much as I can to show that I do notice you’re reading and appreciate you stopping by. So I just want to say thank you to you guys, and I LOVE chatting with you all on twitter! I know that some of you have got to get tired of reading about sarah’s diaper rash, MJ constantly teething, or how John’s baby can read a novel and he’s 2 months old! I really try my hardest to blog about EVERYTHING, not just parenting and my child, so maybe it will be a little more interesting to read here, since you don’t always get the same thing.

also I appreciate you still reading even though I have no concept of what a paragraph is.
It's a good thing I'm a highlight reader. I would have lost my place. Ha ha ha
I feel this way often…like I can never repay the people who visit regularly. There is just not enough time. I try to get around to people occassionally and I try to comment on Twitter as much as I can to those who I know are loyal. I think that helps. p.s. I love you regardless.
LOL, thank you! And sometimes I'm just awful about commenting which is a pet peeve of mine. but, i do the majority of my reading from my phone in bed at night and i hate commenting from my phone. I just read your post about your 1 yr anniversary of your sons accident! I can really relate to having an "anniversary" of an awful event thats taken place. So my thoughts are with you guys today!
I feel that way as well sometimes. If I don't log in to Reader over the weekend sometimes I have over a hundred blog entries just in the mommy/parenting blog category. Hate to say it, but I typically click "mark all as read" and am done with it. I have a few that I go back and read, but otherwise there's just not enough time.
i just recently updated my reader to blogs I actually really READ! boy that was refreshing. no more 987 unread posts!
You can read my blog or not. I don't care
Oh wait, I realized that sounded kinda rude. Not my intention. Just trying to say, I'll read yours, but if you read mine or not, that's your prerogative.
=-)
I'm always shocked – flat out mouth open shock – when someone whose blog I've commented on actually clicks over to comment on mine. Especially people who get, like, 80 comments on every single post. How do they DO that??
I do read a zillion blogs (that's the real scientific number) but only comment if a) I REALLY have something to add b) they've been commenting on my blog and I owe one or c) they only have one or two comments already. Most of the time I just skim through my Google Reader to make sure I didn't miss a sooprize pregnancy or divorce or hilarious celebrity sighting story and call it good.
i like your google reader approach! And Im not good at math so I totally believe you when you say that a zillion IS THE scientific number!
I totally do what Suzanne does. I skim the Reader, click on what interests me, add a comment if I can and if not, meh. No big deal. I figure others are doing the same.
My recent post This is not how I wanted to spend my last day of summer
I like reading your blog and I’m not going to stop no matter what..unless you are mean to me. :]
OK, good! I won't be mean to you…probably. haha
It can definitely get overwhelming. But blogging is about what makes YOU happy!!
Pffft. Writers of Mommy Blogs have the best excuse ever to NOT comment back. You ladies are far too busy for that nonsense.
I was thinking this exact same thing. It's so easy to tweet with other momma's but to read their blogs all the time…I have no time for that. And I would like to officially apologize for making my blog a 365day thing. I seriously wish I never did. It's daunting to do a post every day. I can't wait till this 365days is over and I can start my next blog where I won't have to post all the time.
i know how you feel. i used to read every single post from every single blogger i knew of – when i only knew of about 10 people! ha! over the last year i've found SO MANY amazing new blogs that i love and WANT to keep up on, but i have a really hard time finding the time to read them all. let alone commenting – i end up reading posts from my phone a ton of the time and commenting is a serious pain. then i almost always forget to come back to the post when i'm on my computer! sometimes i worry that i'll get a reputation for being a blog snob since i don't comment back nearly enough. dang! i'm always SO excited when people take the time to read/comment my blog – i feel back that i don't give enough love back! maybe i should send out my own bloggy apology. (;
hugs to ye!
My recent post things i am REALLY going to miss about vacation
you know as a new blogger I loved your post. I love going out and reading blogs but its usually on a night like tonight where my girl is with her dad and I have some rare downtime…then it could be weeks of the reader filling up with tons of unread posts…till I find that next space in time….its a catch 22. Somedays I am good and somedays not so good.
My recent post The time is getting closer
The internetz is scary stuff… seriously overwhelming sometimes. There is absolutely no way you can keep up with everything that goes on… and those peeps who seem to know everyone and chat with everyone and be friends with every single blogger on their twitter? They are full of shit. full stop.
